TJC sparkles in HD on Freeview

High definition outlet of teleshopping channel takes a temporary slot on Freeview.

TJC HD has launched on Freeview, using capacity temporarily available to broadcasters until 5G clearance is fully completed.

Available on channel 115 to just under 75% of UK households, TJC HD is a simulcast of the existing standard definition service that is broadcasting on Freeview channel 49.

TJC - formerly called "The Jewellery Channel" -  launched in 2006 and first appeared on Freeview for two hours a day in December 2007.

With the exception of an HD channel from Discovery's Quest channel, Freeview has struggled to attract any significant HD channels beyond the main public broadcasters, with many HD channels locked down behind a paywall on linear TV platforms, and on-demand HD content from broadcasters being made available via online streaming services.

Yesterday marked the sixth anniversary of the launch of the first temporary Freeview multiplexes, which are due to removed around 2022, subject to any changes in the plan.
