Sky Documentaries launch date and channel number announced

Sky Documentaries will get a prime slot on Sky's channel guide.

It's been confirmed by Sky Media that the new channel will launch on the 7th April 2020.

The new service has been allocated channel 114 on Sky's channel list, taking over the slot now used by SyFy.  The channel's new home will put it between the recently launched Sky Comedy channel (113) and close to the BBC's factual-led channel, BBC Four (116).

As announced last month, Sky Documentaries will become the home of factual programmes from Sky, HBO and Showtime.

Launch highlights will include McMillions, a six-part HBO series, executively produced by Mark Wahlberg which chronicles the stranger-than-fiction story of an ex-cop turned security auditor who rigged the McDonald’s Monopoly game promotion for a decade.

Sky Documentaries is one of two new factual channels to be launched by Sky this spring. Details surrounding the launch of the second service - Sky Nature - have yet to be confirmed. What will happen to SyFy is also yet to be confirmed.

In addition to launching on Sky, Sky Documentaries will automatically be added to Now TV Entertainment Monthly Pass customers.
