Freeview says nearly 7 million users have access to its hybrid connected TV platform Freeview Play.
In total, 9 million Freeview Play compatible devices have been sold since the launch of the service four years ago, a stat which appears to suggest some users have more than one device or that some devices bought since 2015 are no longer in use.
The digital terrestrial TV service also reported in its end of year announcement that it recorded a significant growth spurt for the latest incarnation of its mobile app, launched earlier in 2019, which has seen over 1 million users to date.
Freeview Play now offers more than 20,000 hours of free, on-demand content – Freeview has calculated that a viewer could watch 12 hours a day until June 2024 without seeing a repeat.
Plans for 2020 include an Accessible TV Guide which will launch on all connected Freeview Play devices at LCN 555, following a recent consulation exercise.
And SVoD service BritBox will also officially launch on Freeview Play in early 2020, although it was confirmed earlier that Britbox is starting to appear on some smart TVs with Freeview Play.
