Scottish broadcaster STV has confirmed the arrival of its on-demand player to all YouView households across the UK, with access to Scottish TV classics, news and current affairs and programmes from STV's partners.
Our readers first spotted the service being rolled out on YouView following an update two weeks ago, but the broadcaster has now made its arrival official, confirming what viewers outside of Scotland will be able to see on the service.
Due to licensing agreements, STV can only broadcast its Channel 3 network schedule to users based in Scotland - STV holds the Channel 3 licenses for Central and Northern Scotland - affected programmes can be seen on the ITV Hub elsewhere in the UK. However, STV has been adding a huge array of new content to the STV Player on a monthly basis to complement its home-grown STV produced content, for its audience across the UK.
Available content includes hundreds of programmes across drama, factual, sport and documentary including Street Hospital, Vogue Williams Investigates, Secrets of the Paranormal World, The Pet Collective, House of Rugby and Grand Tours of Scotland – to name a few. In addition, STV’s flagship news programme, STV News at Six can also be streamed, as well as regional content such as What’s On Scotland, Sean’s Scotland and the most watched Scottish current affairs programme, Scotland Tonight. It’s also a chance for the rest of the UK to catch up on classic STV Programmes like Take the High Road, Taggart & Rebus.
Over the past year STV has significantly enhanced the user experience and introduced additional features and a broader content offering, all of which is driving increased consumption. Selected STV Player content is also available UK-wide on web, iOS, Android, Fire TV, Samsung, Roku/Now TV and Freesat. Over 500 hours of additional content can be found on the STV Player from a range of new partners, including Endemol Shine International, TCB Media Rights, Hopster, TVF International, Flame, Jukin’ and Joe Media, some of which is available across the UK.
