Box Plus Network bins Upfront channel

Channel 4 makes first major change to the Box Plus Network following its complete takeover of the former joint venture.

The Box Upfront channel is not coming back. The channel was replaced by seasonal music service Boxmas in the autumn and when that ends next week, the Box Plus Network will be a channel down.

On Virgin Media, customers are being advised that the channel isn't available from 8th January 2020, while Sky has the last programme coming to an end at 6am on 9th January.

The closure follows hot on the heels of the closure of the Box Plus app across various platforms in the past few weeks, as Channel 4 marks its mark on the network and moves towards migrating content to All 4.

The Box Plus Network was originally a joint venture between Channel 4 and Bauer Media. 4Music, The Box, Box Hits, Box Upfront, Kerrang TV, Kiss TV and Magic TV made up the channel portfolio.

Linear music video channels are facing intense competition, including from services such as YouTube, Vevo, Spotify and XITE. Recent years have seen the closure of channels or music channels turning into general entertainment channels.
