Disney+ is has clarified how the new service will work in the UK and launched a special early bird offer.
The subscription video-on-demand service will be bringing together content from Disney, National Geographic, Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar from 24th March in the UK, Ireland and several other European countries.
For UK users, anyone signing up to use the service before it launches on 24th March will be rewarded with a special early bird rate of £49.99 for 12 months, a £10 discount on the standard annual rate. The offer expires on 23rd March 2020.
Ahead of the launch, Disney has been answering some common questions about the new service:
Disney+ will replace the current Disney Life service on 24th March. Current Disney Life subscribers will be sent information on how the change will affect them by email.
Viewers will be able to create up to seven profiles with one subscription and stream four different items on four screens at once and content will be able to be downloaded for offline viewing.
Many of Disney's showcase content including The Mandalorian will be available in the UK from 24th March, alongside classic Disney cartoons and popular children's cartoons from the 80s and 90s including Darkwing Duck.
But there will be some differences between what's available on Disney+ in the UK and what's available in other countries: Over the past few years Disney has been terminating agreements with other broadcasters so that it has the rights to show programmes exclusively on Disney+ when it launches.
However, the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney last year means some of its shows are still running on other broadcasters until existing agreements expire. That's why viewers in the UK shouldn't expect programmes such as The Simpsons to begin with. There's also an ongoing deal with Sky, including the joint venture Sky Cinema Disney and carriage of a number of Disney-branded channels: the eagerly awaited outcome of negotiations between the two companies will determine how the remainder of Disney's content will be made available in the UK outside of Disney+ in the coming months and years.
Devices already confirmed as getting the Disney+ app include:
Amazon Fire TV
Apple [iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV, and fully integrated with the Apple TV app; customers will be able to subscribe to Disney+ via in-app purchase]
Google [Android phones, Android TV devices, Google Chromecast and Chromecast built-in devices]
Microsoft (Xbox One)
Samsung Smart TVs (all newer models)
Sony / Sony Interactive Entertainment [PlayStation4 and all Android-based Sony TVs]
Roku [Roku streaming players and Roku TV models]
...with more devices being added all the time.
Disney will be launching a full help centre ahead of launch, to assist viewers with any other queries about the service.
