Some newer Samsung smart TVs will get the app later this week with rollout to other devices and platforms including Sky and Freeview Play to follow in the future.
The BBC Sounds TV app provides an alternative way for users to access the BBC's national and local radio stations, alongside curated music mixes and podcasts as well as the option to catch-up on BBC radio programmes on-demand.
For some users who were early adopters of smart and connected TV services, the move restores access to on-demand radio that was originally included in some of the first versions of the iPlayer TV app.
