Sky News launches Brexit-Free option

Is there news beyond Brexit? Sky News is to offer a special pop-up news service for viewers who want to know what else is happening in the world.

Sky News Brexit Free will be available from 5pm on Wednesday 16th October, and will, going forward, be available Monday-Friday between 5pm and 10pm on Sky channel 523 providing an alternative to programmes including Sky News Tonight, The Pledge and The News Hour with Mark Austin.
The channel has been launched after a survey in the summer revealed that a third of people were avoiding the news, with Brexit cited as a chief reason by 70%.

To facilitate the service, Sky is utilising spare satellite capacity that's normally only used for pay-per-view events at the weekend.

  • This article was updated on 16/10/2019 to remove reference to YouTube. As explained in a subsequent article, Sky News Brexit-Free did not launch on YouTube, and Sky's original announcement of the channel being on YouTube has now been taken down from the website.
  • YouTube stream available from 21st October: https://www.rxtvlog.com/2019/10/sky-brexit-free-option-opens-up-to-non.html
