Record viewing figures for BBC Red Button Hyde Park festival

The days of text information via the red button may be numbered, but extra music coverage is still attracting great numbers, according to the BBC.

A record 1.6 million viewers tuned in to watch Radio 2 Live In Hyde Park on BBC Red Button this year.

The annual "festival in a day", which took place on Sunday 15th September, featured performances from Simply Red, Kelsea Ballerini, Bananarama, Clean Bandit, Status Quo and Pet Shop Boys.

According to BBC figures, the previous record for Radio 2 Live In Hyde Park on Red Button was held by the 2017 broadcast, which featured a headline performance from Take That and reached and audience of 1.4 million across the day.
Red Button is the home of extra coverage of music and sporting events, available via the regular red button channel delivered on satellite, cable and terrestrial platforms, or via the newer Red Button+ service on smart TVs, which connects viewers to an online stream. For some events, multiple streams are available online.
Red Button text, on the other hand, is facing declining use, according to the BBC, who are preparing to turn-off the service in a few month's time.
