BritBox UK app begins wider smart TV roll-out

BritBox UK is starting to arrive across a wider range of premium and budget smart TVs.

The app has rolled out on the premium range of Panasonic TVs and has now begun its roll-out across smart TVs manufactured by Vestel with Freeview Play.

Vestel is the company behind brands including Toshiba, JVC, Hitachi, Bush, Digihome, Finlux, Logik, Luxor, Polaroid and Techwood.

Vestel has confirmed it will be adding BritBox to all 2017 or later devices with Freeview Play. The BritBox app will automatically appear once the update has arrived on the device.

Other devices with Freeview Play will be getting BritBox in the coming weeks. This covers the vast majority of newer smart TVs sold in the UK.  The only non-Freeview Play TVs with BritBox support at the present time are newer Samsung smart TVs.

How to tell if you are getting BritBox UK on your smart TV

BritBox has also officially confirmed the arrival of Chromecast support, reported by us last week.

BritBox UK is supported by all the main UK public service broadcasters, with ITV holding a 90% share in the business. The service showcases a range of British TV programmes from ITV, the BBC and Channel 5, with Channel 4 programmes joining in 2020.

Reemah Sakaan, group launch director for ITV SVOD said:
We are rolling out more ways of watching BritBox all the time, and are thrilled to confirm our partnerships with Chromecast, Vestel and Panasonic in time for Christmas. We look forward to adding even more ways to enjoy the best of British creativity in 2020, including more FreeView Play [sic] sets, YouView devices and Amazon FireTV.
