Curtains come down on Sewing Quarter channel

After nearly three years on-air, the Sewing Quarter channel has broadcast its final live show ahead of its closure.

Monday morning's live broadcast with John Scott was the channel's last, following a decision by the channel's owners, Immediate Media, to pull out of the television shopping business.

While sister channel Jewellery Maker was able to be sold back to its original owners Gemporia and will continue to broadcast in 2020, Sewing Quarter was not so fortunate, with the channel's regular presenters taking their turns in recent days to say goodbye to audiences ahead of today's final farewell show.

The last live show concluded with clips of the channel's highlights just before 1pm.

The channel is currently showing the last programme on a loop.

Since its launch in early 2017, Sewing Quarter has attracted a small, but loyal group of viewers, with the closure annoucement prompting hundreds of comments on the channel's Facebook group expressing their disappointment over the decision to close the channel.

Due to the Christmas and New Year lockdown on platforms, the Sewing Quarter will remain for a time before being removed from channel line-ups. It is currently not known if there has been any bids from other broadcasters to take Sewing Quarter's broadcasting slots.

Earlier this month, Immediate Media said:
It is with great regret that we have announced a proposal to close Sewing Quarter at the end of 2019. Following a review of our business portfolio, and the tough retail environment, Immediate Media Co has decided to move away from the TV shopping market. This is in no way a reflection on the team behind the channel who have done an amazing job establishing the channel. We would like to thank them and our loyal customers for all their support over the last three years.
Sewing Quarter will begin a phased close down, starting with our broadcast end date in December 2019. Our website will continue to sell our fantastic products.
