The 1968 film, starring Sid James, Terry Scott, Roy Castle and Peter Butterworth is the first to be restored and upscaled into HD by ITV Content Delivery in Leeds for the benefit of subscribers of BritBox.
To mark the occasion, BritBox has provided viewers with a clip of a scene by scene comparison of the restoration.
BritBox is now home to the largest collection of Carry On films available to stream in the UK. According to a recent poll conducted on behalf of BritBox, Carry On Camping came out top as the favourite of the series.
Other classic films are due to get the same treatment on BritBox soon.
Reemah Sakaan, group launch director for ITV SVOD commented:
This fantastic restoration marks the first of many. We are hard at work carefully restoring a slate of classic British content including The 39 Steps (1935) which will be available on BritBox in early 2020.
Meanwhile, content from Film4 will add to the movie output on BritBox during the course of 2020, as part of Channel 4's arrival on to the service.
BritBox support for Chromecast arrived earlier in December, while smart TV availability is increasing with the roll-out of the app on a number of TVs in the past fortnight, including newer Panasonic TVs and a number of budget brands, including Hitachi and Toshiba. Soon all TVs with Freeview Play, plus recent Samsung smart TV models will have the app.
