Another linear channel closes, triggering another reshuffle on Sky.
BoXmas has now closed - and won't revert back to Box Upfront - after the Channel 4-owned Box Plus Network axed the channel, handing over its Sky channel number to sister channel Box Hits.
It was the last of the seasonal channels that traditionally take over regular channel slots for several months at the end of the each year. This time was different - the Box Upfront channel it replaced in the Autumn isn't coming back, meaning the Box Plus Network is down from seven to six channels.
In an announcement to viewers, the broadcaster confirmed that BoXmas would return later this year, although which channel it will take over this year remains to be seen.
RXTVlog reader @PATVOne1 tweeted to say the channel had shown three good-bye-themed songs before its closure just before 6am this morning: Post Malone - Goodbyes, NSYNC - Bye Bye Bye and Spice Girls - Goodbye.
360 Kiss (was on channel 361)
361 Magic (was on channel 362)
362 Kerrang! (weas on channel 363)
The Box on channel 359 is unchanged.
Box Upfront took over the channel slot of the now defunct Heat TV music channel, which mixed music and celebrity news from the publishers of Heat magazine.
The changes come after The Box Plus Network was taken over completely by Channel 4 last year, after previously being run as a joint venture with Bauer Media. Late last year, the Box Plus Network app was pulled from various platforms, ahead of moving content across to All 4.
Channel closing season
Earlier this week, former music channel VH1 UK closed. Sister channel VH1 Christmas also came to an end and was replaced by MTV Rocks on Sky. Universal TV and the Sky version of Horse and Country TV are also going soon.
It's not all doom and gloom for linear TV though: La Liga TV launches shortly on Sky and Virgin Media and Sky Comedy is arriving on the 27th January 2020 across various pay TV platforms.
