Comcast unveils Peacock

omcast is hoping viewers who have abandoned traditional pay TV will flock to a no or low cost alternative with commercials.

Peacock, the company's new on-demand service, will debut in the United States on the 15th April 2020, with a roll-out in other countries including the UK due to follow later on.

It will be the new online home of programmes from NBCUniversal.

But with so many subscription on-demand services now on the market, accessing all of them is starting to become quite expensive. Peacock will offer free or low-cost options to try and entice viewers.

The free version - Peacock Free - will provide fans everywhere with more than 7,500 hours of programming. Peacock Free includes next day access to current seasons of freshman broadcast series, complete classic series, popular movies, curated daily news and sports programming including the Olympics, Spanish-language content, select episodes of Peacock originals as well as curated Peacock streaming genre channels such as ‘SNL Vault’, ‘Family Movie Night’ and ‘Olympic Profiles’.

Peacock Premium, which will cost $5 per month and include ads, will feature more than 15,000 hours of content including Peacock originals and additional sports. Comcast and Cox subscribers, who currently number more than 24 million, will get the Premium service for free. Those customers can pay $5 a month to access the ad-free option.

All other viewers who want to avoid ads can pay $10 per month.

Peacock will stream Law and Order, Law and Order: SVU, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med.

Peacock will also stream Paramount Network hit series Yellowstone. Additionally, Two and a Half Men and The George Lopez Show from Warner Brothers were announced.

As previously announced, Peacock will offer some of the most popular NBC and classic TV series of all time, including 30 Rock, Bates Motel, Battlestar Galactica, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Cheers, Chrisley Knows Best, Covert Affairs, Downton Abbey, Everybody Loves Raymond, Frasier, Friday Night Lights, House, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, King of Queens, Married…With Children, Monk, The Office, Parks and Recreation, Parenthood, Psych, Royal Pains, Saturday Night Live, Superstore, and Will & Grace.

What Peacock will offer in the UK when it finally arrives remains to be seen. Comcast is the owner of Sky.
