Local TV channel London Live has escaped further sanctions by Ofcom after broadcasting a controversial interview with David Icke.
The interview, which was featured in an edition of the London Real talkshow, was previously found by Ofcom to have featured potential harmful statements about the pandemic. In April, the broadcast regulator confirmed that it was in breach of UK broadcasting rules.
As a result, London Live was directed to broadcast a summary of Ofcom's findings, with a threat of further sanctions.
But Ofcom's Sanction Panel has now decided against imposing any further sanctions on the channel or its owner ESTV Ltd.
In making its decision it said that "broadcasting a statement of its findings is an imposition on a licensee's airtime", which can "act as a deterrent to prevent future breaches of the [Broadcasting] Code", which in this instance "was sufficient" and that any further sanction "would not be appropriate in this case."
